D4 Vertical organisation (chords & scales)

Consider the vertical organisation of musical material. It is similar to stacking up blocks to make a wall or building. This vertical construction produces chords and scales.

The manner of vertical construction decides the character of the music.

Different cultures have their own musical scales and modes, which produce the unique sounds of their music.

  • Major and minor scales, modes, etc.
  • All kinds of chords
